Giving skincare jars a second life

WE have all faced the same dilemma at the end of a cosmetic or skincare product's life cycle – what to do with the empty container.
In celebration of Earth Month, Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia (ELCM) with Origins helped consumers give back to the environment by encouraging the public to bring back any ELCM empties to the Origins kiosk at Mid Valley.
During the three days, the public were invited to bring all their skincare empties or jars to the kiosk for recycling or to be utilised into cacti/succulents planters.
"We have been supporting Earth Month for the last eight years in Malaysia and we will continue doing the same in the years to come. Our objectives are simple – to play our part in raising awareness to protect Mother Earth," said Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia Managing Director, Paul Slavin.
"Did you know that over 30% of landfill waste comes from consumer products and most cities do not recycle cosmetics packaging? Hence, the idea to reuse skincare empties for another purpose. Not only is this a fun activity to do, it promotes the spirit of awareness of recycling skincare empties," he added.
Origins known for its natural skincare brand is committed in championing environmental causes. The brand's dedication towards a beautiful earth is evident from its production methodology that includes reducing pollution, lowering wastage, utilising alternate fuel (with wind powered production plants) to wise packing choices with the least environmental impact.
To celebrate Earth Month in-stores, Origins helped consumers give back to the environment by giving a limited edition recyclable tote with any skincare purchase.
Designed to house empty products, the graphic tote is created with eco-friendly non-woven polypropylene material made from recycled plastic.
After use, consumers can drop off their Origins skincare empties at any Origins store for recycling. Once the do-good is done, the tote doubles as a carry-all to take your beauty products and other essentials on-the-go to the gym, beach and everywhere in between.
For every tote gifted, Origins will Plant-A-Tree through their partner American Forests' Global ReLeaf to help bring forestation to five key areas of need, namely Gros-morne, Artibonite, Haiti; Superior National Forest, Minnesota; Rio Grande National Forest, Colorado; Dixie National Forest, Utah; and China Mangrove.
