RMAF grounds Aermacchi MB339CM aircraft

ALOR STAR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has grounded its Aermacchi MB339CM training aircraft pending investigations into the air crash involving the make on May 17.
RMAF chief General Tan Sri Roslan Saad said other aircraft would be used for training purposes until the result of investigation into the crash in Kampung Pandan Dalam, Pekan was available.
"We have eight Aermacchi MB339CM training aircraft. We will resume using them after the results of the investigation is known," he said after handing over pilot wings for a Basic Flight Course and Helicopter Transition Course at the Air Force College, Kepala Batas, 67km from here, today.
The aircraft, carrying flight instructor Major Nazrul Hafiz Zaimi and trainee pilot Lieutenant Mohd Hakimi Khairi, crashed after experiencing technical failure at 12.54pm.
Lieutenant Mohd Hakimi broke a leg while Major Nazrul Hafiz was unhurt after ejecting out of the aircraft. — Bernama
