Mosti pledges to aid local authorities' investigation into Huckle

PETALING JAYA: The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) has pledged to help local authorities in their investigations into British paedophile Richard Huckle (pix).
Its minister Datuk Seri Madius Tangau said the ministry viewed the matter seriously and was ready to provide technical expertise to help in the investigation, and other similar cases in the future.
"We will provide technical expertise related to cyber safety, especially in the field of cyber forensic, that is provided by CyberSecurity Malaysia to help authorities in their investigations," he said in a statement today.
Huckle was given 22 life sentences by a court in London on Monday for sexually violating 23 children in Malaysia.
He pleaded guilty to 71 offences and police found more than 20,000 pornographic images of children in his computer and camera when he was arrested at Gatwick Airport in London in 2014.
Recently, British media reported that Huckle, a freelance photographer, had abused up to 200 children aged from six months to 12-years-old from 2006 to 2014.
Meanwhile, Madius said the ministry is currently undertaking efforts to educate the public on the importance of cyber security and the use of computers and the internet, including intensifying existing programmes like the CyberSAFE programme in schools,
Similarly, he said parents should also be more alert and monitor their children's activities on the internet.
