PUTRAJAYA: Ten percent of the alumni of the Perdana Fellows programme implemented since three years ago are currently serving in the public sector, including as diplomatic administrative officers.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaludin (pix) said 40% of other alumni were currently pursuing their studies and the rest worked in the private sector, including leading companies and government-linked companies.
"This programme has made a good impact on the young generation in giving input to improve the government administration," he told reporters after the 2012 Perdana Fellows presentation ceremony to the Cabinet ministers here today.
The Perdana Fellows programme is an initiative of the federal government and coordinated by the Youth and Sports Ministry that functions as the programme secretariat.
Khairy said 82 fellows selected this year would be placed in ministers' office as executive assistants or interns who would work between three to six months depending on their scheme.
Mohd Fasha Musthafa, 27, a fellow who would be placed with the Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Salleh Keruak, said his selection as a fellow this year was a golden opportunity for him.
"I hope during my five-month internship at the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, I will be able to acquire knowledge and experience besides having the opportunity to express my ideas to make the ministry more people friendly," he added. — Bernama
