KUALA LUMPUR: Police nabbed two locals and seized 12kg of syabu hidden inside laptops and computer monitors here on Thursday.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said their unlawful activity was discovered upon receiving a tip-off when police together with the City Narcotics Crime Investigation Department raided a room in a four-star hotel here.
"Checks found that 2kg of drugs believed to be syabu was stashed in a few laptops and computer screens," he said.
The 35 and 43-year-old locals were arrested for further investigation.
Following the arrest, police inspected their vehicle which was parked in the hotel parking lot and found 10kg of syabu in the car booth.
It is learnt that the drugs seized are worth RM14,100.
The suspects have been remanded until Aug 18 and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Amar Singh also reminded a coalition of college students believed to be planning the #TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 rally on Aug 27 to adhere to existing laws.
He said anyone participating in the rally which does not meet the requirements under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 risk being arrested.
"The Federal Constitution gives the right to assemble peacefully but it is still within the necessary limitation. The freedom to assemble is not an ultimate right," he added.
