PETALING JAYA: Action will be taken against the contractor responsible for a crane hook which caused a fatal accident in Kuala Lumpur last night, if any safety violations are found.
The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh) said a thorough probe is being conducted to ensure the responsible contractor had taken all necessary measures.
"We are also conducting forensic investigations to determine the main causes of the accident to prevent similar incidences in the future," Dosh said in a statement today.
The Department said it views each workplace accident seriously, especially when it is fatal, either involving workers or bystanders.
Dosh said the primary contract is responsible for the safe use of the tower crane according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act while Factory and Machinery Act requires regular maintenance of the tower crane by a competent company registered with the Department.
Lastly, Dosh conveyed its condolences to the victim's family and said work safety procedures will be reviewed if necessary for the safety of the workers and the general public.
Chim Khoon Sing, 24, was killed on the spot when a crane hook fell onto her Perodua Kelisa outside a construction site near Pavilion shopping centre on Jalan Raja Chulan at 7.18pm yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Amar Singh reportedly said the case is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for death by negligence.
