Sabah FC resolve wage issue with only one month's arreas to settle

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah FC now only face one month’s salary arrears after efforts have been made to fully resolve the financial setback since last year, said its director Mohd Joh Wid (pix).

He said Sabah is also actively making several payments in stages such as the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and apart from the main squad, Sabah is also facing the same problem for the under-23 and under-18 teams.

“We have resolved the problem of salary arrears that has occurred since last year, for the under-23 team, they just signed a contract last March and the first salary will be paid soon.

“For the senior team, one month’s salary was paid recently, but there is still one month left and we are working out to pay the balance,” he said at Likas Stadium here today.

At the same time, Mohd Joh said that despite facing other debts such as rental payments and so forth, it will not affect the preparation of the Sabah FC team to compete in the 2024-2025 Malaysian League which will kick off soon.

“Sabah FC does have a large debt, but all debts that could affect the licensing process with the Malaysian Football League (MFL) have been cleared and the MFL has given us flexibility on the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked about Sabah FC’s new players, he said that so far there are no plans to recruit new players.

“We will think about that after our financial situation has improved because now we are looking for sponsors,” he said.

Regarding the appointment of the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Sabah FC, Mohd Joh said there has been no decision on the matter yet.

“I will carry out the duties of CEO during the vacancy and we hope the position will be filled before the start of the league,“ he added.
