BATU PAHAT: Realising the importance of providing housing to ensure the welfare of the people, the Johor government, through its subsidiary, JCorp, is committed to building 2,780 units of affordable houses at Taman Mutiara Sri Gading, here.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the project would be developed on 236 hectares, comprising 1,599 units of double-storey terrace houses, 1,060 units of low and medium-cost houses while the remaining are office units, medium-sized shop lots as well as commercial lots.

"This project will benefit the area, especially in providing an opportunity for the public to own houses," he told reporters after launching the opening ceremony of Taman Mutiara Gading and the construction of the Batu Pahat KPJ Specialist Hospital today.

According to Mohamed Khaled, the houses will be sold at RM42,000, RM80,000 and RM180,000, according to the type of houses.

"To enable the public to be able to purchase houses at a low price, the state will use the dividends of the project to cover a subsidy of RM15 million," he said.

He said until now JCorp had completed 30,000 housing units which will be expanded to Batu Pahat as a step to ensure that the people of Johor are able to enjoy the benefits of the state's developing economy. — Bernama
