KUALA LUMPUR: Newly appointed Senator Khairul Azwan Harun, who is also Umno Youth deputy chief, wants to work with opposition youth leaders to create a vision that is accepted by all Malaysians.
He urged all young leaders and civil societies to join forces to create a proper pathway for the young people in the country.
"I would like to also see the youth leadership from the opposition parties as well to sit down together and chart a new and better future using the right narrative," he told reporters outside the Dewan Negara today.
He said the narrative is for a better future, for a more tolerable, caring and loving society, which so far the young generation have almost forgotten.
"We should embrace it all over again, but it must start with the youth leadership," he said.
He thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who is Youth and Sports Minister, for the appointment.
"This is a big recognition for Umno Youth and a big responsibility. It will be my role to bring forth the issues and aspirations of the young people of the country especially those that touch on their concerns.
"I also want to bring in the agenda of de-radicalisation that is being explored by the DPM. I want to bring a new narrative that will be universal, accepted by all and can guarantee the peace and harmony of the country," said Khairul, who was one of six Umno office bearers sworn in as senators by Dewan Negara president Datuk S. A Vigneswaran today.
The others were Seputeh Umno division head Datuk Mustapa Kamal Mohd Yusoff, Putri Umno assistant secretary Datuk Fahariyah Md Nordin, Wanita Umno Exco Datuk Rabiyah Ali, Umno Kelantan state liasion secretary Datuk Hanafi Mamat and Johor Umno liaison committee education cluster chairman Rahemah Idris.
They were appointed for a three-year term from today.
