GEORGE TOWN: A Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) MP today publicly declared his assets despite not holding any government position.
Parit Buntar MP Datuk Mujahid Yusof Rawa said those holding elected positions must be transparent.
"It is my responsibility as MP towards the people, I think it is fair for the people to know my income and my assets," he said today.
In his statutory annotation, the party vice president said he receives a gross monthly income of RM25,700 as MP.
From there RM325 goes to taxes, RM1218.03 to service his 1Angkasa housing loan and RM4,000 as party contributions.
His fixed monthly expenses are RM5,300 for his service centre, including two assistants, and RM5,000 for constituency programmes.
He also declared RM423,000 in assets comprising of a house valued at RM291,000, a Honda Accord 2.4 valued at RM110,000 and a RM22,000 Proton Saga.
In declaring his finances, Mujahid called upon others in politics to follow his example.
"This (declaration of assets) is the first thing a party which aspires to be transparent should do," he said.
On political developments, Mujahid said the Penang chapter was eyeing the Permatang Pasir state seat in the 14th general elections which is now held by Datuk Salleh Man of PAS.
He said Amanah should contest the seat as PAS was no longer within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) front.
"I may like him (Salleh) as a friend, but PAS is not our partner in PH as of now," he said.
