KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized a number of documents with pertinent information on the activities of a secretary-general of a ministry – a "Datuk", who was arrested on Wednesday for alleged graft.
According to sources in the MACC, the documents were recovered during a raid on the Datuk’s office in Putrajaya yesterday.
The contractors and vendors believed to have been awarded contracts from the Datuk will be called to record statements after the documents are scrutinised.
“Some of the ministry’s officers and staff will be called soon to facilitate the investigations,” said the source.
The source added that the MACC will also investigate the suspect’s involvement in several projects during his previous posts.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki confirmed the matter when contacted.
He said the investigation was still in the early stage and more documents were expected to be seized.
More than RM5 million in cash and gold bars have been seized so far following the arrest of the Datuk, 59, at his home in USJ, Subang Jaya, near here while his two sons, aged 29 and 34, were arrested on the same day at MACC headquarters after they were called in for questioning.
The secretary-general and his two sons have been remanded seven days from Jan 5 until Jan 11 to facilitate further investigations into the case.
