GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was questioned by police today over an allegedly seditious statement on the proposed Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1966 (Act 355) which was posted on his blog.
Lim had his statement taken at Komtar by two police personnel from the Selangor police contingent earlier this morning.
In the blog post dated Nov 23, 2016 posted on limguaneng.com, he urged MCA, MIC, Gerakan and SUPP to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) for supporting PAS' proposed Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1966 (Act 355).
In a press conference later, Lim who was accompanied by his counsel RSN Rayer, said he is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948.
He said police commenced the probe after five police reports were lodged against him in Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
"How can it be seditious when we call BN component parties to withdraw from the coalition, " he asked, adding that similar action should be taken against BN parties as well for urging DAP to leave Pakatan Harapan (PH).
