A roaring start to the Year of the Rooster

SUNWAY LAGOON will be ushering in the auspicious Lunar New Year - which happens to be the Year of the Fire Rooster - next weekend, with plenty of exciting sights and sounds, and a host of attractive goodies.
The first 1,000 visitors to this premier theme park on the first five days of the Chinese New Year (from Jan 28 to Feb 1) will receive a traditional Chinese ang pow filled with attractive goodies worth RM100.
These include vouchers offering discounts of as much as 32% for entrance tickets to the theme park, retail vouchers worth RM10, and a photobook voucher worth RM79.
These ang pows will be given out at both the main and Surf Beach entrances of Sunway Lagoon by the park’s very own celebrity couple – Captain Quack and Lady Quack – together with the God of Prosperity.
And in a nod to the festivities, the power couple will be all decked out in traditional Chinese costumes.
From Jan 29 to Feb 1 every morning at 9.40am, early birds to the park will also get to meet and greet with the theme park’s iconic characters at the Carousel, followed by a dazzling lion dance performance by Shaolin GC.
The fanfare will continue in the afternoon at 2.15pm with an energetic kung fu performance, followed by the thunderous drumming performance of the 8 Prosperity Drum troupe.
Meanwhile, SpongeBob SquarePants will be making a special appearance at the recently-opened Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, giving fans of all ages plenty of opportunities to take a photo with this Nickelodeon beloved icon.
To sweeten the occasion, Sunway Lagoon staff will also be on hand to give out mandarin oranges and fortune cookies to lucky visitors.
Sunway Lagoon general manager Sean Choo said: “While every day is a celebration here at Sunway Lagoon, we’re pulling out all stops this Chinese New Year to ensure a truly memorable celebration for the whole family to usher in the Year of the Fire Rooster.
“For four days, the entire park will be transformed into a carnival unlike any other – one that truly befits the occasion.
“It’s our way of showing our appreciation to our guests [for] all these years [of support] and to cement our position as a premier theme park, not only in this country but internationally as well, as reflected by the large number of international tourists we welcome through our doors every year.
“This celebration will be truly a spectacle to behold not only for our international guests, but also those from within Malaysia.”
Visitors to the theme park from now to tomorrow will also stand a chance to win an afternoon tea for 10 at Sunway Hotel Resorts & Spa worth RM1,250 as well as free admission tickets to Sunway Lagoon.
To participate, all they have to do is to submit a memorable photo of themselves with their friends and family taken at Sunway Lagoon and describe their best day ever at Sunway Lagoon in not more than 150 words.
