PORT KLANG: Police are investigating the owner of a car who left his vehicle parked on the railway tracks here.
Sources said in the incident on Monday, the 56-year-old owner's negligence not only left him with a damaged car, but also he might face a fine or penalty between RM1,000 and RM5,000, as he is now under police investigation under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act.
South Klang district police chief ACP Alzafny Ahmad who confirmed the incident said initial investigations revealed that the driver parked his car on the railway tracks at Jalan Pelabuhan Selatan here at about 10am to catch a ferry to Pulau Ketam.
It is learnt that the man and his friend went to the island to celebrate the Chinese New Year with friends who live there.
"Efforts by KTMB's auxiliary police to contact the owner failed and with the aid of members of the public, some group of people together with KTMB personnel attempted to move the vehicle at about noon, as a train was scheduled to pass the stretch at 1pm," Alzafny said.
It is learnt that the crowd was unable to move the car much, as there were other vehicles parked close to it.
When the train arrived at 1pm, it grazed and damaged the vehicle's rear.
The train driver then lodged a police report on the incident.
Alzafny said the car driver only learnt about the incident when he returned from Pulau Ketam at about 4pm on the same day.
A video clip of the incident and several pictures, taken by a witness on Monday, have gone viral on Facebook.
The footage, about 2 minutes 7 seconds in duration, shows the train driver trying to pass the location at an extremely slow speed so as not to cause much damage to the car.
