Two children who were believed to be victims of trafficking were rescued by police

KUALA LUMPUR: Two siblings aged two and seven, who were believed to be victims of trafficking by their biological mother were rescued by the Bukit Aman anti-vice, gambling and secret society division (D7) on Tuesday.
A police team from the Anti Trafficking In Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrants unit raided a shoplot in Taman Miharja, Cheras at 9.15am.
City CID chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said police found the two children and the mother in a room at the shoplot located on the third floor.
There were other tenants in the shoplot.
Rusdi revealed that police had been staking out the premises for a week to track the comings and goings of the mother.
"Our investigations revealed that these two children are victims of exploitation by their mother," he said.
"Kuala Lumpur police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the case. We will also speak to the children to get information from them and are also speaking to other witnesses," he said.
Rusdi also revealed that the mother, who is an Indonesian national, has been remanded for six days until Saturday to facilitate further investigations.
"The children are in a healthy and stable condition, currently we are investigating the details of these kids' ordeal," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Anti Trafficking In Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 for taking a person into temporary custody.
