BUTTERWORTH: A businesswoman cried and pleaded with the court for bail after she was charged for human trafficking at the Sessions Court today.
Tan Poh Gin, 35, cried to be given bail after DPP S. Selvarnajini asked the court not to grant bail.
The accused told Sessions Court Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus she had to take care of her two children, aged seven and four.
"My four year old son is having fever, I need bail to take care of him," she told the court in Mandarin.
Norhayati then set bail at RM15,000 with one surety and fixed April 10 for mention.
She also told the accused to appoint a lawyer to assist her in the case.
Tan, who is from Nibong Tebal, was charged with trafficking a 19-year-old Indonesian teenager, Yuliana, to exploit as forced labour.
The offence was allegedly committed at Quan Yong restaurant, Taman Seri Emas in Nibong Tebal, between Jan 2015 and Feb 1 this year.
She is liable for a maximum 15-year jail sentence and fine if convicted of the offence under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Suggling of Migrants Act 2007.
