Driver in Bukit Tambun bus crash claims trial to reckless driving charge

NIBONG TEBAL: An express bus driver today claimed trial for reckless and dangerous driving, which claimed the life of a 29-year-old woman on Monday.
Muhd Farid Awang, 39, was accused of committing the offence and caused the death of Norazah Azizan at about 4.20am at KM151.9 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) yesterday.
The offence falls under the Road Transport Act 1987 and those convicted are liable to a maximum 10 years jail and a maximum RM20,000 fine.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Afiq Nazrin Zaharinan prosecuted the case while Muhd Farid was not represented.
Afiq Nazrin asked Magistrate Shamshol Azwa Martadza to set bail at RM10,000 with two sureties as the accident caused the death of a woman.
Muhd Farid however told the Court he was the sole breadwinner as his wife was a housewife while his three children were still schooling and asked for a lower bail.
Shamshol then set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and ordered the driving license of Muhd Farid be suspended until the case was completed before fixing May 4 for mention.
