GEORGE TOWN: The Seberang Perai Municipal Council today said those who want to put up buntings or banners within the municipality must get permission from the Council first.

A Council statement said permission was required from the Council before such materials could be put up and referred to a March 26 incident where banners with the PAS logo was put up at Jalan Bagan Luar.

The statement said the act contravenes the Council bylaws on advertisements and those responsible for putting up the 11 banners and 50 flags have been advised.

"All the flags and banners which were taken down were returned to PAS representatives who were meeting in a hotel nearby," the statement said and expressed hope that all parties will be good role models and obey the law.

In a recent statement, PAS Bagan Youth information chief Muhd Hafiz Ilyas questioned why the flags and banners were taken down and claimed Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had a function nearby.

"The flags and banners were put up for the delegates as a sign and not for provocation," he had said.
