Policeman killed, five others injured in attack on Narathiwat police station

NARATHIWAT: A policeman was killed and five others injured when six men in a pick-up truck and armed with automatic weapons attacked the Ranget police station here today.
The policemen were gathered in front of the police station listening to a speech by a senior officer when the attack occurred at 8.45am.
"The gunmen were cruising in the truck in front of the police station when they unleashed a hail of fire at the policemen who were standing in line.
"Some of the policemen fired back," Ranget district police chief Col Surapon Chattisuk told reporters here.
He said the police found about 30 casings from M-16 and AK-47 rifles which were used by the attackers.
The pick-up truck was found to have been stolen from Kampung Romsai, Sukhirin district, Narathiwat recently.
Yesterday afternoon, security forces shot dead two men in the Resak district, Narathiwat.
The deceased, aged 28 and 30, were believed to be members of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK).
The duo were involved in the killing of a family of four recently, according to the security forces.
An M-16 rifle and 9mm pistol were found on the dead men following the 10-minute firefight with the security forces. — Bernama
