Ringgit opens unchanged against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened unchanged against the US dollar today on lack of catalyst, said a dealer.
At 9.12am, the local unit was quoted at 4.4230/4280 against last Friday's 4.4230/4280 at 6pm on Friday.
The greenback received lacklustre support as previous US data and comments from Federal Reserve officials did not give traders much room for currency exposure, said the dealer.
"Investors are awaiting this Friday's non-farm payrolls report to gauge US rate hikes throughout the year and if it were to have a bad turnout, it would weaken the dollar and vice-versa," he added.
Against a basket of major currencies, the ringgit was traded lower.
The local note declined against the euro to 4.7211/7273 from 4.7198/7260 on Friday and eased against the Singapore dollar to 3.1686/1740 from Friday's 3.1640/1685.
It depreciated against the yen to 3.9732/9781 from 3.9502/9550 on Friday and declined against the British pound to 5.5464/5532 from 5.5009/5080, previously. — Bernama
