GEORGE TOWN: A prominent corporate figure with a "Datuk" title, who was remanded on March 30 for alleged abuse of power and position in a local foundation, has been released on a RM100,000 Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bond.
The 70-year-old arrived at the Penang High Court about 10.30am today clad in an orange MACC lock-up suit and in handcuffs.
He was accompanied by MACC officers and his counsel Reza Rahim, N. Rajiven and V. Jeyasingam.
He was then taken to the Penang MACC headquarters at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah here after Penang High Court Assistant Registrar Ahmad Tajudin Zain allowed him to be released.
When approached outside the MACC headquarters by reporters, Reza said the bond came with two sureties.
He said there was no instruction from the MACC for follow-up questioning so far.
"Datuk has nothing to hide, we are ready if the MACC summons him again," he added.
The businessman has more than 40 years of involvement in the business, corporate and entrepreneurial sectors.
He surrendered on the night of March 29 to assist in investigations for the offence of using office or position for gratification under the MACC Act 2009.
He was subsequently remanded for five days the day after his arrest.
