Two Mamak Gang members shot dead in Chemor gunfight

IPOH: Police shot dead two members of the notorious Mamak Gang known as "Misai" and "Ganesh" during an exchange of fire at Tanah Hitam, Chemor here on Tuesday night.
The two high on the police wanted list fired several shots and also tried to attack the police team in their haste to flee in the 9.30pm incident.
Following a tip off, a police team from the Bukit Aman, Perak and Penang police contingent headquarters on crime prevention rounds spotted two men in a car behaving suspiciously at Tanjung Rambutan.
Acting Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the police approached the car and ordered them to stop but they fled towards Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Tanah Hitam.
"After a seven kilometre chase, the suspects tried to ram into the police vehicles but their car skidded and at this juncture, the driver fired four shots at the police and his accomplice threatened them with a parang," he told reporters here today.
"The police then returned fire and killed the suspects at the scene," he said, adding that the men aged 30 and 50 were suspected to be involved in 28 cases including burglaries, robberies and car thefts with losses up to RM1.9 million committed in Perak, Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Malacca.
The men did not have any identification documents on them.
Police seized several items including the car reported stolen in Taiping, a .38 Special revolver, two live bullets, four magazines, four parangs, an axe, two baseball caps with police logos, a police vest and four sets of vehicle registration number plates.
