KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has filed a defamation suit against Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos over his statement, in relation to Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) in a press conference, last month.
Kok, 53, had filed the statement of claim through her lawyer S.N.Nair at the High Court on Wednesday. However, the document was only made available to the media today.
Kok is claiming for more than RM1 million in general damages (to be assessed by the court).
In her statement of claim, Kok said Jamal, 47, made the statement in a press conference held on March 8, 2017 and the statements is still available in the form of a video on his Facebook account.
The statement was also published in the form of a video on YouTube and in an article in news portal Malaysiakini on March 14, 2017.
Kok claims there is no truth to the allegations made by Jamal and that she had never abused her power as a leader or misappropriated public funds as alleged by him.
She is seeking for compensatory, aggravated and exemplary damages and an injunction to prevent Jamal from repeating or spreading the allegations.
Kok is also seeking interests, costs and other reliefs deemed fit by the court.
