DAP assemblyman files writ to restrain Taib from becoming Yang di-Pertua Negeri

KUCHING: The DAP state assemblyman for Padungan, Wong King Wei, today filed a writ of summons to restrain or prohibit outgoing Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud from accepting the appointment of Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.
The writ was filed by Alexander Ngu, of the legal firm of King Wei & Clement Advocates and Solicitors, with the High Court registry in the afternoon.
Taib, 78, is scheduled to receive his letter of appointment as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this Friday, after he resigns as chief minister and state assemblyman for Balingian on the same day.
He is to succeed Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, whose term ends on Friday.
Wong, who is Sarawak DAP Youth chief, told reporters that he was filing the writ as a concerned private citizen and was fully backed by his party.
