Establishment of STING, STAFOC, has big impact on PDRM: Mohd Bakri

KUALA LUMPUR: The establishment of the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) and the Special Task Force On Organised Crime (STAFOC) has big impact on the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin (pix) said the string of successful raids by STING and STAFOC nationwide show that PDRM is committed in eradicating crimes run by syndicates.
"The presence of STING and STAFOC has big impact on PDRM. The elite group or squad has received specific training and expertise with focus on eradicating crime syndicates down to the grassroots.
"STAFOC for example, will perform missions that must be accomplished as soon as possible," he told reporters in an interview to mark the 207th Police Day in Bukit Aman here, recently.
The same applies for STING who will eradicate syndicates involved in drug trafficking.
Established on Jan 1, STAFOC aims to address serious crimes, gangsterism, gambling, prostitution and human trafficking.
STING's roles include identifying drug trafficking black spots which involves triads and stopping the entry of drugs at airports via land and sea routes.
Commenting on the challenges faced by PDRM, Mohd Bakri said cyber crime is among the main focus of the security force.
"We view things from the cyber crime angle. We will upgrade in terms of specific expertise so that we can bring cases to court. It is important to us."
Mohd Bakri said police officers who had received expertise in specific areas from overseas can pass the knowledge acquired to police officers here.
More police officers will be sent overseas to partake in courses related to cyber crime.

On collaboration with associations, Mohd Bakri said PDRM has engaged several parties, including the National Council of Professors (NCF).
"The aim of our collaboration with NCF is to seek input to raise the level of national security. We agreed to set up a working group to discuss security and policing.
"We also ask for their advice and recommendations regarding security threats," he said, adding that he hopes to enhance collaboration with other agencies under the Home Ministry.
Mohd Bakri said PDRM is planning for the future by organising programmes that can bring it closer to youths in the country.
"We will try to find avenues to get close to the community, especially the youths by giving them the opportunity to interact, express their views and provide them with information about PDRM."
The 207th Police Day celebration on March 25 is themed 'Komuniti Sejahtera Komitmen Kami' (Peaceful Community Is Our Commitment).
Activities lined-up include a parade to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak at 8am on March 25 at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Jalan Semarak, here.
It will also include a ceremony to present the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) medals to police personnel who fought for the Federated Malay States from July 12, 1948 to July 31, 1960. – Bernama
