Anwar: Big disconnect between previous govt data and quality of life

SEBERANG JAYA: There is a disconnect between the economic data released by the previous government and the quality of life of the people, said PKR defacto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said it is pointless releasing figures, data and statistics illustrating impressive growth, when the average Malaysian is struggling.
"We want a database that correlates with the lives of the people. If need be, we need to lower taxes to ease the citizenry's burden," he said in his first public rally at the SP Arena here last night.
The mistake of the previous leaders was to make believe that things went well because of some data, he said.
"But such figures provided an inaccurate depiction of people's lives, and the ensuing policies from it had widened the gap between the prosperous group and those who were suffering," said Anwar.
"I have much experience as a prisoner. Those rascals went after me just because I have a different approach towards governance."
But his spirit was not broken as he was fighting for a cause, he said. "Until the last days of my life, I will never forget what the people did for me. They won my freedom and I am forever indebted."
