BUKIT MERTAJAM: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has ticked off certain quarters who want to derail Pakatan Harapan's efforts to put up a good showing in the coming general election by harping on the use of the coalition's logo.
He said the use of the PKR logo by Pakatan partners was agreed upon at the highest level of the alliance – the presidential council – following the move by the Registrar of Societies not to register Pakatan Harapan.
When told that the protests were launched by parties who claimed to have the support of 120,000 PKR members, Azmin brushed if off, saying that it was an irresponsible and irrelevant move with the election so near.
The focus of everyone associated with Pakatan is to ready the Opposition to put up a good challenge against Barisan Nasional (BN), Azmin said while on a one-day campaign visit to Penang.
"The message of a need to change the country to save it from possible ruin has been heard loud and clear by the people. Now it is to make it count."
Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl over the final list of candidates for PKR in Penang, with at least seven incumbents expected to either be relocated or dropped to make way for new blood.
Among the names that have surfaced are Ong Chin Wen (Bukit Tengah), Dr T. Jayabalan (Batu Uban), Cheah Kah Peng (Kebun Bunga), Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim (Batu Maung), Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon (Pantai Jerejak), Datuk Maktar Shapee (Sungai Bakap) and Datuk Law Choo Kiang (Bukit Tambun).
The new name to have surfaced is Gooi Hsiao Leung, the son of former Penang DAP chairman Gooi Hock Seng, who has taken a sabbatical from active politics since the mid-2000s.
Hsiao Leung, who is the incumbent Alor Star MP, is expected to be relocated to Penang.
Penang PKR is expected to unveil its candidates in the next 72 hours.
