BRT service a convenience for Bandar Sunway residents

KUALA LUMPUR: Getting motorists who commute daily in the city to take public transport, especially the train service, is not a problem, but try asking them to take the bus, the answer may likely be "no way".
Accessibility, inefficient, inconsistent schedule are among complaints by those who commute daily using the public bus service – a reason why many are still willing to drive through congested roads to reach their destination on time.
However, the consumers' perception of the public bus service is changing with the introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) since June 2015 in Bandar Sunway and Subang, which have a population of about 500,000 people.
BRT was introduced to further enhance connectivity of existing public transport services, as well as speed up bus travel for passengers.
The all-electric bus service serves commuters based in Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya, plying a 5.4 km-long route, the Sunway Line, and cover a total of seven stations.
It connects residents in Sunway and Subang Jaya to shopping complexes, hotels, hospitals, and institutions of higher learning in the area such as the Mentari Business Park, Sunway Lagoon, Sunway Medical Centre, and Monash University Malaysia.
With a Park and Ride facility for 1,153 cars at the main BRT terminal, including special bays for women and people with disabilities (OKU), the stations are equipped with escalators, lifts, kiosks, and a passenger information system.
A survey of the BRT service, from its first station at USJ 7 to the last station at Setia Jaya, found that it greatly benefits residents there as it connects the missing link between two rail lines – KTM commuter and Kelana Jaya LRT Line.
A student of a private college, Shanny Kua, 22, said the BRT service is available right in front of her college, which made easy for her to go to the KTM komuter station at Setia Jaya.
A lecturer at Sunway University, Gloria Pong, 30, said the "Park n Ride" facility at the Sun-U station freed her of the hassle of looking for a place to park her car before going to work, and at a reasonable price.
The BRT stations are also equipped with closed-circuit television cameras and a pedestrian bridge. — Bernama
