KUALA LUMPUR: The government will maintain the Cost of Living Aid (BSH) - formerly known as the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) - next year in a bid to assist the low-income group, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced in his maiden budget speech.
The Finance Minister said under the aid, households earning RM2,000 and below would receive cash assistance of RM1,000.
"Households earning between RM2,001 and RM3,000 will receive RM750 each while those earning between RM3,001 and RM4,000 will receive RM500," he said when tabling the 2019 Budget at the Dewan Rakyat, here, today.
In addition, Lim said the government would introduce an additional BSH assistance of RM120 for each child aged 18 and below for households categorised in the B40 group, limited to four children.
Special needs children will also receive the aid, regardless of their age, he added.
Under Barisan Nasional previously, households earning less than RM3,000 would receive RM1,200 in BR1M payment for the year 2018 while households earning between RM3,000 and RM4,000 received RM900 each.
