Capsized tanker: SAR operation for 6 missing Indonesian crewmen continues

JOHOR BARU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for six missing crewmen continued today, after an oil tanker was believed to have exploded and capsized in waters off Tanjung Pengelih near Pengerang yesterday.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Southern Region (Operations) deputy director, Maritime Capt Sanifah Yusof said the operation began at 8am, involving 60 officers and personnel from the MMEA, Royal Malaysian Navy, Marine Parks Department and the Johor Port Authority.
"The search area is about 40 square nautical miles covering the waters off Tanjung Stapa to Teluk Ramunia," he said when contacted here today.
Sanifah added the efforts to control the oil spill from the tanker was ongoing.
"At the moment, the Marine Parks Department has managed to control the oil spill. They have released chemicals to control the oil spill from spreading to other areas."
It was reported that the six Indonesians went missing after the incident at 4.6 nautical miles off Tanjung Pengelih. — Bernama
