BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested a car wash worker for breaking into a Chinese temple to commit theft.
Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the 35-year-old suspect broke into Tokong Chi Pui Neo Neo at Jalan Kampung Manggis, Permatang Tinggi about 1.30am on Friday.
Nik Ros Azhan said the police seized some items from the suspect during the raid at his workplace.
"The police team have seized a yellow colour block in dragon shape, a PDRM symbol helmet, a motorcycle and also few t-shirts.
"We have found that the suspect has two previous records involved in drugs cases and also another four criminal cases.
"He also has admitted he had done the burglary and theft at the temple when the police are questioning him," he told reporters today.
Nik Ros Azhan said the 60-year-old temple's caretaker discovered the break-in and lodged a police report about 3.30pm on Saturday.
"The caretaker has found that the locks of the temple's grilled gate had been pried open while two copper-made oil lamps, worth RM2,500, are missing," he said, adding that the police had taken the footage of the closed-circuited television (CCTV) for further investigation.
Police are investigating the case under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking and theft.
