ALOR GAJAH: The cooperation of all parties is required to implement various green technology programmes in the efforts to propel Malacca as a green technology state by 2020, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
He said efforts to fight climate change especially through the implementation of green technology needed the continuous commitment of the government and support of the people in the state.
Therefore he said Malacca would continue to implement various green technologies to maintain its status as a state which made green technology as a policy for its growth and development.
"If all parties join hands in the effort, the vision of making Malacca as the pioneer of green technology can be accomplished," he told a press conference after opening the Malacca Urban Environmental Accords (UEA) Summit 2017 here today.
Also present were South Korean Gwangju Metropolitan City deputy mayor Park Byung Ho, Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Hamim Samuri as well as State Housing, Local Government and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ismail Othman.

Malacca UEA is being attended by 288 local and foreign participants including Kenya, The Philippines and South Korea to share views and experience on green technology.
Commenting further, Idris said Malacca had outlined the guidelines and features of development in green city areas to ensure a sustainable environment for the future generations.
"We are proud to be the first state in Malaysia to provide green house gas emissions inventory and implement an action plan to resolve climate change. The switch to new energy sources is progressing well and it would indirectly contribute to mitigate the effects of climate change.
"Awareness and knowledge of green technology among the people is important to overcome the destruction of the environment and natural resources while it also plays the role as an alternative to boost the country's economy," he said. — Bernama
