KUALA LUMPUR: Police have discovered an underground drug lab following the arrest of a drug distributing syndicate's mastermind supplying drugs and drug-laced drinks to posh entertainment outlets in the city.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said in the 5.30pm operation on Thursday, a team from the Sentul Criminal Investigation Department detained a 40-year-old man and raided his hotel room along Jalan Pudu here.
Checks found that 14 packets of methamphetamine and eight packets of heroin were kept in his room.
"Following interrogation, the local led police to a house in Taman Bukit Idaman in Batu Caves Selangor on the same day where police nabbed further four men aged between 30 and 52.
"Police found 9.8g of methamphetamine, 9.2g of cannabis and 17kg of powdered methamphetamine," he told reporters at the city police headquarters, here today.
In the raid, police also found a special compartment build underneath the house where the suspects processed drugs.
"The underground compartment could fit 20 people. When we arrived, the syndicate members had just finished distributing drugs to the possible middle man. This syndicate targets high class entertainment outlets.
"So I can say we seized the remaining drugs kept at the underground of the house and overall drugs seized worth more than RM1 million," Mazlan added.
The syndicate, known as "Ah Tee Jinjang" group have been active for the past four months.
All five suspects were remanded until April 5, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
