PETALING JAYA: A robbery suspect was forced to surrender after police shot him following a high-speed chase along the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) today.
The drama unfolded at about 2.15am, when policemen at a crime prevention road block at Jalan Pinggir Zaaba, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, stopped a vehicle for inspection.
However, the driver sped off and got stuck at a U-turn along the road.
A police patrol car from the KL contingent also assisted in the pursuit.
The policemen gave chase for about a few kilometres but the suspects refused to heed orders to stop, and in desperation, the suspect rammed into the road divider at Jalan SS2/75 here.
The suspect then came out from the car and tried to escape on foot to a junction along the road, forcing a policeman at the scene to open fire.
One shot was fired, where it hit the right side of the suspect's abdomen.
An ambulance was called in and the suspect was rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the 33-year-old local was a wanted suspect for house break-ins and vehicle theft.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din confirmed the matter when contacted.
