MULTIdisciplinary fields give room for more versatility and have made engineering a popular study option for students. A leading name in business, built environment and engineering, Heriot-Watt University serves as a launching pad for students who wish to pursue a successful career in the industry.
Among others, the university is ranked 34th in the UK and fourth in Scotland and placed top 10 in the UK for Chemical Engineering, Building and Town & Country Planning according to The Complete University Guide 2017. Heriot-Watt also placed 41st in the UK and seventh in Scotland according to the QS World’s University Rankings 2016/17.
The university’s offerings include programmes in foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Heriot-Watt’s foundation programmes have been designed as preparatory programmes to equip students with the necessary skills that will help them in their undergraduate studies.
Ling Wan Yan, a Chemical Engineering student at Heriot-Watt was a part of the university’s pioneer batch of foundation students.
She said, “HWUM Foundation in Science Programme was specially designed for engineering students and it is well structured. The Heriot-Watt culture is very friendly, and lecturers and students are very helpful. I joined the Toastmasters Club and now serve as its President. Here, I have made tonnes of new friends, had a lot of fun and picked up valuable skills such as time management”.
“I decided to pursue Chemical Engineering pretty early on because I have a great interest in physics and chemical reactions, and their prevalence in our daily life. I was curious to learn about how various products are formed and come to life in factories, and understand the process behind them,” she added.
What’s more, the university’s strong presence in the UK, Dubai and Malaysia allows Heriot-Watt students to transfer within campuses for a period of time during the course of their studies through its inter-campus transfer programme, Go Global.
Students can transfer as long as their programme is offered at the campus of choice, plus the use of the same syllabus at these campuses eliminates any academic barriers.
For more information on the Go Global programme, as well as the programmes and scholarships offered at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, visit its campus in Putrajaya. Alternatively, log on to www.hw.edu.my or call +603 8894 3888 or email hwum@hw.ac.uk.
