ESSCom nabs 15 illegals in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A total of 15 illegal immigrants from Indonesia and the Philippines were arrested during an integrated operation carried out by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) on Wednesday.
ESSCom Commander DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali said that 197 individuals were inspected and of the total, the team detained 13 Filipinos and two Indonesians, aged 12 to 55, at three separate locations namely in Kampung Desa Bajau, Kampung Silam and the Lahad Datu market.
"The six-hour operations, which commenced at midnight, focused on locations suspected to be the hiding places for the illegals," he said in a statement here.
Hazani said those arrested were referred to the Immigration Department and investigated under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1960 for failing to provide valid identification documents.
He said all detainees were then sent to the Tawau temporary detention centre for further action, before being deported to their country of origin.
He added that the operation involved personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Immigration Department and the Lahad Datu district council. — Bernama
