Express bus catches fire on East Coast Expressway

    KUANTAN: Twenty nine passengers of an express bus and its driver cheated death when the vehicle they were travelling in caught fire at KM58 on the East Coast Expressway yesterday.
    Bentong Fire and Rescue Station chief Zainal Abidin Nong Chik said, in the 1.40pm incident, the bus, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Raub was totally gutted by the fire.
    "However, all the passengers as well as the driver managed to escape and continued their journey to Raub in a replacement bus," he told reporters here today.
    Zainal Abidin said eight firemen in one fire engine were rushed to the scene which was located about 39km from the Bentong Fire and Rescue Station.
    The operation to extinguish the fire ended at 2.25pm. — Bernama
