GE14: Special needs voters anxiously waiting for May 9

KOTA BARU: The election fever has also affected Risda retiree Abdul Rahman Ahmed, 73, from Kampung Baung, Pengkalan Chepa, who can't wait to go to the polls to exercise his right as a voter this May 9.
"It will be my first general election going to the polls as a disabled person (OKU). Being blind will not stop me from exercising my right," he said when met at his house here.
Abdul Rahman, who lost his sight three years ago due to diabetes, said he had never missed going to the polls for the general election and would also follow the country's political development by listening to the radio and television.
Another OKU, army retiree Mohd Nor Muhammad, 69, also from the same village and who became paralyse following a stroke, said he would go to the polls, despite his handicap.
"It is to symbolise my appreciation of the federal government's contribution in looking after the welfare of the OKU, such as the monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department," he said.
Likewise, Rogayah Salleh, 74, who is visually impaired and paralysed following a stroke three years ago, said she had never failed to exercise her right as a voter.
"I will go out to vote even if I have to be carried," she added. — Bernama
