KOTA BARU: The Locker4U, a special medical locker service introduced by the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII) here since 2014 has received an overwhelming response from patients who require regular supply of medicines.
Through the service, the patients would not have to wait too long at the pharmacy to collect their medicines because it would be made ready for collection in their respective lockers.
The service is not only time-saving, but also relieves many patients from having to look for a parking space in the hospital's usually congested parking area.
Heart patient, Mohd Radzi Ab Hamid, 58, said the Locker4U service was very helpful because not only he did not have to queue up at the pharmacy, his children could also help him pick up the medicines from the locker on the given date.
"No more hassle to find a parking lot because we only need to pull over for a while to open the locker and take the prescribed medicines. Thanks HRPZII for providing this service," he told Bernama.
Meanwhile, HRPZII director Dr Selasawati Ghazali said one of the obvious advantage of the service was that patients did not have to spend any time at the pharmacy as they could collect their medicines from the locker anytime within 24 hours of being placed there, including outside working hours.
"With Locker4U, collection of follow-up medicines has become more flexible. Most importantly, the service is free," she said.
Selasawati said so far, the hospital had 80 such lockers catering tor 320 patients, whereby each locker was shared among four patients.
"Each patient has a different key, and they will collect their medicines according to the date notified by the Pharmacy Department staff. Usually, they will receive an SMS from the hospital staff prior to collection," she said.
She said although a locker was shared by four patients, there was no issue of patients taking the wrong medicines because if a patient could not come and collect the medicines on the given date, the medicines would be retracted and replaced by the medicines prescribed for the next patient.
To enjoy the service, Dr Selasawati said patients need to register first before they were given a key for the locker.
"Locker4U is one of HRPZII's proud achievements as it has won the Best Service category at the 2013 Innovation and Creativity Convention, Best Management category at the Eastern Zone Department Innovation Convention 2014, and the Best Service category award at the Ministry of Health Innovation Award in 2014," she said.
Dr Selasawati said besides Locker4U, the hospital also provided the Dx-Home service, where insulin and other medicines are sent directly to patients' homes.
She said for the service, the hospital had collaborated with a company which would deliver the medication to a registered patient for a fee, depending on the distance. — Bernama
