KUANTAN: The joy of receiving a new school bag is evident on the face of nine-year-old Orang Asli, Aijuan Eijoe A/L Aju, of the Jakun tribe.
However, when asked whether he would use the bag for his first week of school as a Year Four student at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Ibam, Rompin, he sadly said, "no".
"I want to give it my younger sister, Jaja, who will enter Year One soon. I can still use my old bag, but Jaja has none yet," said Alijuan who was among the 80 recipients of Ops Kasih 2.0 organised by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) Pahang branch here, today.
During the event themed 'Ceria Kembali ke Sekolah', school supplies were presented by Pahang IRB director Syed Hisham Syed Mansor.
Also present was Pahang Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) director Johari Alwi.
Another recipient, Nisa A/P Yusri, 11, a student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Muadzam Jaya who aspires to become a professional chef said she was happy to receive the contribution with her brother, Asri, eight, who has yet to buy a school bag.
The recipients comprised poor students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Isap Murni, inmates of Rumah Anak Yatim Ad-Dhuha and children from the Rompin Orang Asli community.
The programme aims to cultivate a caring and responsible attitude towards the needs of the community among the IRB staff. — Bernama
