KOTA BARU: Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob hoped for stronger cooperation between the state and federal governments to ensure that the people's well-being would continue to be safeguarded.
Ahmad, who is also PAS deputy spiritual leader, said it was also in line with the federal government's desire to build a developed nation by 2020.
"We will strive to improve cooperation between the state and federal governments to help the people of Kelantan, as we do not want to see a state that has not yet developed when the federal government declares a developed nation by 2020," he said.
He said this when officiating the state level Cooperative Day 2017 celebration at the compound of the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here today.
Also present were Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.
Meanwhile, Mustapa, who is also state Umno liaison committee chairman in his speech, said the cooperation between the federal and state governments was improving, especially on projects such as the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project and the construction of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Kelantan.
Later, Hamzah told a press conference that Kelantan now has 818 cooperatives with 350,000 members involving shares valued at RM327 million.
"The accumulated assets thus far have reached RM1.88 billion and a total of RM1.08 billion of revenue was recorded last year," he said. — Bernama
