Kota Belud has 69% treated water coverage

KOTA BELUD: Treated water coverage in the district is almost 69% according to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
He said the situation had vastly improved compared to 10 years ago after the government spent hundreds of millions of ringgit to upgrade water supply services in Kota Belud.
"This included the construction of a new water treatment plant and provision of a borehole pump to boost the water pressure," he told reporters after surveying ongoing works to deepen Sungai Tempasuk near Kampung Bobot here today.
Deepening the river was part of the government's flood mitigation measures for the district, he said, adding, two more rivers, Sungai Kadamaian and Sungai Gurung-Gurung would also be deepened, at a cost of about RM80 million.
Abdul Rahman who is also Kota Belud member of parliament said other steps taken by the government to prevent floods in the district included building flood barriers and watercourses with the cooperation of relevant departments and agencies.

"We are making every effort to resolve the flood problem and I hope residents here will remain patient," he said.
He attributed the frequent incidents of flood in the district to the earthquake in Ranau in 2015, saying hundreds of thousands of tons of sand, rocks and other debris flowed downstream, filling the rivers, rendering them shallow and flowing unsmoothly. — Bernama
