KUALA NERANG: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) through the Second Battalion of the Royal Rangers Regiment seized 200 kg of ketum leaves, worth RM18,000, that were believed to be planned to be smuggled into Thailand, earlier today.
Sixth Brigade commander, Brig General Abdul Aziz, said the seizure was carried out near a checkpoint at the Sahara Post at about 9.30am.
A total of 20 black plastic packages, each filled with ketum leaves were found hidden in nearby bushes to avoid detection.
"However, inspections in the area did not find its owner and the leaves were then seized and sent to the Padang Terap district police headquarters for further investigation," he said in a statement, here today. — Bernama
