Malaysian youth eyes gold at WSC Abu Dhabi 2017

JOHOR BARU: Muhammad Zulkifli Sahdan is eyeing a gold medal in the Decoration and Painting category at the World Skills Competition (WSC) 2017 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates next month.
The 20-year-old from Batu Pahat, said he has been undergoing intensive training since January to prepare himself for the competition which would be held from Oct 14 to 19.
"I want to create history. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), my preparation is now at 90% ... I have attended a series of training in accordance to the competition modules so that I will be well-prepared physically and mentally.
"Among the modules are lettering and designing, filling and priming, colour bands, and spray painting. The lettering and designing will carry the most marks, namely 37 out of 100," he told reporters when met at the Johor region of the Malaysian Construction Academy here today.
Muhammad Zulkifli said the four-day a week training, from 8am to 5pm, was conducted with guidance from his mentor-cum-instructor, Jammuri Ibrahim, who is also a specialist in the Decoration and Painting of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
The youth, who plans to further his studies in civil engineering won gold at the Asean Skills Competition in Kuala Lumpur last year and silver at the WSC Malaysia in the youth category in 2015.
The biennial WSC competition is one of the largest vocational skills competitions in the world and this year participants from 77 countries will take part in the competition. — Bernama
