KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri urged Malaysians to come together to strengthen their common values and unity as a nation, as Malaysia celebrates Malaysia Day tomorrow.
She said without unity, Malaysia might never have become the harmonious and unique multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-lingual country as it is today.
“My hope for this Malaysia Day is that we strengthen our common values, our pride as a united nation, our love for peace and our greatest asset as Malaysians is peace and harmony. Let us place more trust onto each other and ourselves, and remember our diversity is our strength, and Malaysia’s future is key in all we do and practice,” she said in a statement here, today.
Using the longhouses in Sarawak which houses many families under one roof as a metaphor, Nancy said Malaysia was home to millions from various background, ethnicity, culture and religion.
“It is our unwavering unity, patriotism, love and trust in our beloved nation that forms the strongest foundation to build a better Malaysia today and for tomorrow, for each and every Malaysian,” she said.
Apart from unity, she said other elements that have pushed us towards becoming a more inclusive and progressive nation is the constant pursuit of democracy and economic prosperity by leveraging on our social and cultural diversities.
