KUALA LUMPUR: A new Sentul police quarters in Taman Keramat AU1 with 300 units is expected to be ready by December 2018.
All 270 families, who have been temporarily relocated to Setapak due to the MRT Sg Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line, can move into the new quarters by the first quarter of 2019.
The new quarters will come with three bedrooms of 120sqm, facilities like surau, shops, kindergarten and a community hall.
The 40-year-old Sentul Police Quarters, comprising of two 16-storey blocks, are being demolished to make way for the MRT SSP Line.
MRT Corp SSP Line Project Director Datuk Amiruddin Maaris said the demolition is needed because the buildings’ foundations are in the way of the tunnels of the SSP Line.
“The demolition work is being done by a specialist demolition sub-contractor and is being monitored by MRT Corp and our underground work contractor.
“The process is being carried out with very strict controls right from planning stage where a detailed structural analysis is done to determine the safest demolition method and to maintain the structural stability while the demolition is in process,” he said during a media briefing at the project site in Sentul.
Amiruddin said it was big challenge to relocate residents from their homes when the land was acquired.
“And when there are any infrastructure affected by our project, we have to give compensation. But in this case because it is the police quarters, we need to provide them the necessary facilities.
“So we have covered their temporary rental and travel expenses for their children to go to school and so on. They have been very cooperative with us,” he told a press conference after the briefing.
MGKT Safety, Health and Environment General Manager Christopher John Fenton, who was present, explained the demolition process in detail.
