Pakatan devoid of calibre leaders: Noh Omar

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan's decision to name Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for prime minister indicates the opposition pact has run out of leaders of calibre for the post, said Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.
He said the Pakatan situation was contrary to Umno's system which was better organised in the selection of leaders.
He also said that Pakatan did not even name Selangor Mentri Besar and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the candidate for prime minister.
At its convention last Sunday, Pakatan Harapan named Dr Mahathir as its candidate for prime minister if it wins the next general election. It also named PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the candidate for deputy prime minister.
"I see no calibre leaders in PKR. After the 2008 general election, the then Pakatan Rakyat appointed Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as the mentri besar. Azmin was the deputy president but did not get to be the mentri besar.
"What does this mean? It only goes to show that PKR itself does not recognise Azmin's leadership," he said.
Noh, who is Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister, spoke to reporters after the presentation of the Excellent Service Awards 2017 at the ministry here.
Earlier, in his speech, Noh congratulated the ministry staff for having achieved 99.94% in the 2017 development expenditure for the ministry to secure the second position among the 25 ministries, up from the eighth position in 2016. — Bernama
