PPBM members' complaints to RoS established as contradicting the party's constitution: Zahid (Updated)

PUTRAJAYA: Forty-seven complaints lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) members to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) have been established as 'problematic', which contradicts the party's constitution, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
He said the RoS has received up to 249 complaints from PPBM members as of Monday.
"Having studied the 47 complaints, RoS would now have to painstakingly evaluate the rest of the complaints before coming up with a final decision," he told reporters after chairing the special committee meeting on the "Congestion issues across the Johor Causeway and Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (Linkedua)", at Perdana Putra.
Reiterating that RoS is merely performing their duties professionally without fear or favour, Ahmad Zahid reminded former premier and PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the rules governing the legitimacy of any society remained the same even during the latter's administration.
"It is unfair for the party leader to blame the RoS as the complaints against the party's failure to conduct the necessary annual general meetings (AGMs) of its branches as well as at the central level with minimum required quorum was made by its own party members.
"The RoS is not foolish and ignorant as pointed out by the party leader (on this issue)," he said in reference to Mahathir.
Earlier, Mahathir had opined that the recent complaints by PPBM members to the RoS could be a conspired effort to derail the registration of the Pakatan Harapan coalition. He cited as evidence the fact that the reports lodged by over 400 PPBM members to the RoS was similar and used the same words.
"There seems to be a concerted effort, by certain quarters to force the RoS to reject Pakatan Harapan's application.
"Of course, if the RoS feels that our assembly was not legitimate, then the application to register Pakatan as a coalition will be affected and could be rejected," he said at Pakatan Harapan's weekly press conference at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, here.
On Sunday, it was reported that PPBM would comply with RoS' instructions to ensure that its AGM held last Dec 30 would be deemed legitimate.
PPBM secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh had said they are preparing a comprehensive report with the necessary documents such as financial statements and list of activities to be sent to RoS as early as next week despite being given 60 days from the day of the AGM to do so.
Even if RoS found that the reports are 'problematic', he also said the party would still proceed with its plan to work together under Pakatan Harapan.
