PUTRAJAYA: The proposal to include the Environment subject as part of the education system will be brought for cabinet approval by early next year, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
According to him, the ministry will be submitting its report on the syllabus proposals for kindergarten, primary and secondary school to the Education Ministry for further deliberation.
"My counterpart (the education minister) and I will meet to finalise other matters before putting it forth to the cabinet for approval.
"I am confident that the proposal will be accepted in a positive manner," he said after officiating the TN50 Dialogue with the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry staff at the ministry, here today.
Wan Junaidi said the ministry is serious in dealing with environmental pollution, and one of the most effective ways is through early education at school.
"Actually this idea was mooted around November 2016 even before TN50 was announced. All the ministry divisions had worked towards planning the syllabus from kindergarten, primary and secondary level," he said.
When asked on matters being finalised with the Education Ministry, Wan Junaidi said this would involve training teachers to be able to teach the subject as well as how to classify the subject.
"The Education Ministry could for instance classify Environment as a compulsory non-examination subject," he added.
