Publish list of unclaimed monies

"RM5.7 bil in unclaimed money, says minister" (News, July 27) refers. It is not enough to ask an account holder or his heir to make a claim.
If the account holders or their heirs were aware of the unclaimed money they would have taken action. They have not made a claim because they are unaware of it.
Some may have forgotten while others may have died without informing anyone and thus their heirs would not be aware of it. I have read of many cases where people had even forgotten they had buried money or treasure in their gardens.
I am disappointed the minister had said the registrar of unclaimed money in the Accountant-General's Department is not responsible to inform or trace the account holder.
The minister or the registrar should help the account holders or their heirs know about their unclaimed money.
The unclaimed money belongs to the rightful holders and I don't see why a special effort was not made to trace them.
The registrar can publish the names and locations of account holders of the unclaimed money in all the newspapers. I believe this will bring about the desired effect to have the unclaimed money returned to the rightful account holders or their heirs.
